Two dead after separate recent crashes on Cardinal Rd. NW

Two separate but recent crashes on Cardinal Road claimed the lives of two men.

The first was on Aug. 13 and the victim was identified as 67-year-old Dale Bushman of Bemidji.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was between Balsam Road and the airport.

Bushman apparently left the roadway and overturned the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The second fatal crash on Cardinal involved a bicyclist.

Sheriff Ernie Beitel says on Aug. 25, 26-year-old Romel Baker of Illinois was struck in the “S” curves near Blue Mayflower Road. He died from his injuries on the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggests that Baker was dressed in all dark clothing and was bicycling near the center of the southbound lane when he was struck by a southbound Ford F250.

Thirty-year-old Dwight Wendorff of Bemidji was identified as the driver of the pickup.
