Two injured, one seriously, in suspected meth-related crash

Two were injured in a head-on crash at the bridge in Benedict Saturday afternoon.

Hubbard County Sheriff Corey Aukes reports 58-year-old Denise Lafine of Laporte was southbound on County Road 38 when she crossed the centerline.

Sixty-eight-year-old Carol Helland of Grand Forks was in the northbound vehicle, a Chrysler van, when she collided head-on with Lafine’s vehicle at the curve.

Helland was treated on scene for a facial injury.

Lafine was airlifted to a Fargo hospital via Lifeflight helicopter for facial and hip injuries.

Suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia were found in Lafine’s possession. Blood drawn from her was sent to a BCA lab for testing.

The investigation into this crash continues.

Lakeport First Responders assisted at the scene.
