Two women face murder charges

Two women were charged Friday for a murder that happened two years ago on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 20-year-old Alexia Cutbank and 20-year-old Mia Sumner murdered one person and shot and injured another in mid-August of 2019.

Cutbank and Sumner made their initial appearances Friday and are being detained pending another hearing.

The Attorney’s Office’s new Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons initiative is collaborating with numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Red Lake and Duluth police departments, the BCA and the FBI.
