Two-year-old killed in Becker County house fire

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two-year-old child killed in a house fire north of Detroit Lakes.

According to a release, the fire was reported early Saturday morning after midnight, with the initial report indicating there were two people trapped inside the house.

Upon deputy arrival, the house was fully engulfed in flames with one child unaccounted for.

Two-year-old Micah Hedlund was identified as the fire’s victim.

According to the investigation, the children in the basement were alerted by smoke alarms going off, and the stairway leading to the upstairs bedrooms was blocked by flames.

The parents, Michael and Melissa Hedlund, were able to escape out a second-story window.

When learning Micah was still inside, the child’s father and older brother attempted to go back in the house but were unable to find Micah in time.

An adult female and five-year-old female were airlifted to a Minneapolis Hospital for smoke inhalation and burns.

The case is still under investigation.
