U of M coming to Beltrami County Fair to conduct numerous studies

The University of Minnesota is coming to the Beltrami County Fair for the first time and will conduct a number of studies, including the 10,000 Families Study, or 10KFS.

According to the U of M’s Professor Ellen Demerath, participants can come as they are to Building 13 during the Fair.

The 10KFS is a family health-based study that invites people to participate with the purpose of understanding the influences of genetics, lifestyle and environment on health and illness.

As part of this research, they are currently investigating exposures to radon gas common in homes, glyphosate (RoundUp) used in agriculture and yards, and the chemical PFAS (aka “forever chemicals).

Having representation from families across the state, especially in Greater Minnesota, is essential. This study will only be conducted from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12.

A number of other studies will be conducted by U of M throughout the fair, which begins today and ends Sunday.
