Unemployment benefits for high school workers

High school students whose jobs have been affected by COVID-19 may be eligible for retroactive unemployment benefits.

“Youthprise is pleased DEED is moving forward with issuing PUA benefits to eligible high schools students. We will continue coordinating with DEED to ensure every eligible high school student receives the benefits of which they are entitled.” said Marcus Pope, Vice President of Youthprise.

According to a release from Minnesota DEED, all high school students whose jobs have been impacted by COVID should apply at uimn.org immediately.

The process to begin these payments is scheduled to begin today, and applications could be accepted after Dec. 26, but affected workers are encouraged to apply right now.

DEED, according to a release, was waiting for a court order and additional clarity before the process could begin.
