UPDATED: 23 file for Bemidji School Board

Twenty-three people filed to be Bemidji School Board members.

Candidate filing closed Tuesday at 5 p.m.

There are five seats available, three four-year terms and two two-year terms with the resignation of two board members since the last election in 2020.

Incumbents Carol L. Johnson and Sarah Young filed to keep their seats and will be met with eight other challengers on the ballot in November: Ashley Brue, Jenny Frenzel, Kerin Hanson, Nicole Jaranson, Meredith Kehoe, Anna Manecke, Wesley Newell and Dave Wall.

School board member Jeff Lind did not file for another term.

Thirteen filed for the two available two-year terms: Brian Dow, Guy Drevlow, Jake Hemingway, Justin Hoover, Kimberly Jannson, Julie Laitala, C.T. Marhula, Michael Meehlhause, Daniel Nynas, Marie Richey, Danielle Thorson, Miriam White and Rebecca Whiting.

In November, voters will select three for the four-year terms and two for the two-year terms, and the top candidates in both races will be sworn in as school board members in January.
