UPDATED: New Hope woman found

Updated at 2:25 p.m. Friday, April 10

The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office says they have found a woman missing since Wednesday at a remote cabin this morning.

Eileen Nelson told officers she got lost on April 8 and spent the night wandering around the area. On the next night, she made entry and started a fire at a cabin on Otterkill Trail.  She had been reported missing on April 7.

Nelson’s vehicle was reportedly found abandoned on April 8, and someone called to report a vehicle that appeared stuck along Heart Lake Road. The driver would not lower the window for the caller and appeared to hide their face. When law enforcement returned to the vehicle, it was empty with the radio playing.

The Minnesota State Patrol flew over the area with an infrared camera, and a ground search was also conducted Thursday. A specialized search and rescue team was in the area today.

The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office thanks the state patrol, the DNR, Sheriff Reserve members, Christian Aid Ministries Search and Aid Organization, Northstar Search and Rescue K9 Teams, the White Earth Conservation Office and the Clearwater County Land Department for their assistance in this search.
