UPDATED: Two confirmed victims after house fire near Bemidji

Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood says firefighters responded to the home Thursday around 6:12 a.m. with the report that two children were possibly trapped in an upstairs bedroom.

The bodies of the two children were found after a seven-hour search in the home on Pony Lake Rd. and it is deemed a total loss.

An adult female was transported to the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Firefighters were on the scene for eight and a half hours with 16 pieces of equipment and 46 firefighters.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in today’s tragic event,” wrote Sherwood in a release.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office says that around 1 p.m., two bodies were recovered from the site of a house fire in Liberty Township early this morning.

They were transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies and identification.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time,” wrote Sheriff Ernie Beitel in a release.

As of 11 this morning, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a devastating house fire on Pony Lake Road with investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Bemidji Fire Department.

Emergency personnel are working the scene attempting to find possible victims.

The initial report indicated the call came in around 6 this morning and there are two children unaccounted for, and by the time first responders arrived the second story was fully engulfed in flames.

Forty-five firefighters responded to the all-call, from Shevlin, Blackduck, Solway and Bemidji, bringing 16 pieces of equipment.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office reports two children are unaccounted for after a devastating fire on Pony Lake Road NW, about 13 miles from Bemidji.

Sheriff Ernie Beitel says deputies and fire crews arrived at the 9000 block of Pony Lake Rd. NW after 6 a.m.

The second story of the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

As of 8 this morning, fire crews are still on the scene and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is en route.

No further information is available at this time.

The Bemidji and Solway Fire Departments are currently on scene with the Sheriff’s Office.
