Great River Rescue Executive Director Brandon Mustful shared video of a cat abandonment from early Sunday morning, expressing frustration that community members have attempted to rehome their animals in this way.
Mustful says the shelter is currently overwhelmed with an influx of dogs and cats, many of which are currently on waiting lists to be accepted into the shelter.
“Obviously, the person cared about the cat and was trying to do what is best,” said Mustful in an email. “However, they didn’t care to think about how it affects my staff or the other 76 people on our waiting list.”
Great River Rescue hosts a “home to home” adoption site, allowing pet owners to rehome their animals without placing them into the shelter.
