Today is Vietnam War Veterans Appreciation Day.

Today marks 49 years since the last American troops departed Vietnam.

The American Legion says it was around this date also that the last acknowledged prisoners of war were released from Hanoi.

American Legion posts across the nation are holding ceremonies, including the one in Bagley.

Beginning at 5 p.m., Vietnam veterans and their spouses are invited to a free dinner and program at the Bagley American Legion Post.

Nine million Americans served in Vietnam and 58,000 never returned.
