White Earth discusses tribal ordinances with membership

By: News Director Larissa Donovan

MAHNOMEN– The White Earth Reservation Business Council met with membership this past Monday to discuss audits.

According to a lengthy press release, the Other Governmental Project updated those in attendance on several programs and people who aren’t in compliance with tribal ordinances, with several questionable expenditures being audited.

The White Earth Driveway and Construction program, for instance, is being audited for projects that weren’t recorded or costs that were underreported in records.

Several driveways were ordered and completed through the program by children of former Tribal Council representatives, who were not named in the release, but conditions of payment weren’t made and estimates far exceeded the costs recorded by several thousand dollars.

The OGP recommends holding responsible parties criminally and civilly liable for the unlawful use of tribal funds.
