White Earth passes $16 minimum wage

The White Earth Reservation Business Council passed a $16 per hour minimum wage for workers on the White Earth Nation.

This encompasses gaming, White Earth-owned commercial entities and within tribal government.

According to Secretary Alan Roy, the hundreds of affected workers can expect the change to take effect on March 26.

“In many respects, White Earth Nation has now surpassed State and Federal efforts for raising the minimum wage,” said Roy in an announcement.

“The decision to raise the minimum wage for workers reflects a key value of the Tribe: supporting workers and their families.”

Roy also credited the tribe’s frugality in recent years that made the decision possible.
