Kelliher man killed in crash near Waskish

Updated June 15 to reflect new information that this incident was the same fatal hit-and-run crash investigated by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

A Kelliher man was killed in a crash near Waskish the morning of Monday, May 31.

The state patrol says 58-year-old Shaun O’Malley was southbound on Highway 72 when his Jeep Wrangler left the roadway and rolled into the ditch near Sunny Beach Road.

This is believed to be a hit-and-run crash involving another driver who fled the scene.

O’Malley was pronounced dead at the scene around 10 a.m.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office announced the highway was closed but reopened a few hours later.

They, the Bagley Ambulance and Minnesota DNR assisted at the scene.
