2024 City Budget discussions begin tonight

The Bemidji City Council will begin discussions about the next year’s budget in their work session this evening.

Staff recruitment and retention is a major concern across numerous departments, especially police.

Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin writes in a memo that his office pays 25 percent less than comparable agencies that have a far lower call volume.

Fire, the Attorney’s Office, and even the Financial department is requesting additional staff for the workload associated with a growing regional hub.
