Classes were canceled at Bemidji State University Friday after threats of violence at a “Beaver Huddle” Thursday evening.
According to a statement from President John Hoffman, the Center for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion hosted the Beaver Huddle event to discuss recent hate-based incidents on campus, when anonymous, location-based social media began to distribute threatening remarks toward specific people in the room.
Hoffman emphasized his team is taking every possible step to identify the person or persons responsible for making the threats.
“We know that this abhorrent behavior has seriously affected the ability of some of our students to feel safe and secure on our campus,” said Hoffman.
“This is absolutely unacceptable and will not stand.”
No further information is available, but law enforcement and campus security don’t believe any imminent threat exists.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
