As newborn fawns may be turning up in yards and gardens, the DNR is reminding well-meaning residents to leave fawns alone.
Most fawns are born from mid-May to mid-June. Fawns do attempt to evade predators, rather, they remain still to avoid being seen.
During these times, fawns are learning survival skills but are often left on their own while their mothers forage nearby.
Deer fawns are likely fine even if they look abandoned or fragile.
If a fawn is known to be wounded or abandoned due to a car strike or animal attack, do not transport it before contacting the DNR or a wildlife rehabilitator.
