BEMIDJI– The Department of Natural Resources says they’re continuing to be aggressive against starry stonewort infestations on Minnesota’s lakes.
Starry stonewort is already in several Beltrami County lakes, including Cass, Moose, upper Red, Turtle and Wolf, according to the infested waters list.
The DNR will issue permits for pilot projects, working with local governments and lake associations and partnering with researchers to limit starry stonewort in Minnesota after it was first confirmed in 2015.
The first cases of starry stonewort in Beltrami County were confirmed just a year later.
Starry stonewort can double or triple in size in just a couple of years, with hand removal by divers appearing to be effective when done carefully.
