PFAs task force in the works

Minnesota House Representative John Persell of Bemidji reports he has co-authored a few bills since the start of session last week.

While no bill numbers are yet available, he has been working on a Forest Protection bill in a similar vein as the decades-old Wetlands Protection Act, with a goal of no net loss of forest.

Persell has also put his support behind an initiative that would use sawdust from mills like Potlatch to create wood pellets in an effort to reduce coal consumption.

Persell reports he has authored a bill creating a task force to address PFAs, a chemical compound that has been found in the city of Bemidji’s drinking water supply.

A bonding proposal for the $16 million water treatment plant has been submitted by the city, with a bonding request for half of the cost of construction.
