The former executive director of Bemidji’s Sanford Center was sentenced to 21 days in jail.
Forty-eight-year-old Curtis Webb was sentenced yesterday and ordered to serve his jail sentence immediately, and was taken to the Beltrami County Jail from the courtroom.
Webb was convicted of felony theft by swindle. County investigators discovered about $38,000 in various fraudulent reimbursements to Webb, largely for travel, and the Minnesota State Auditor concluded Webb conducted around $67,000 in questionable transactions, in addition to the fraudulent ones.
VenuWorks, the third-party operator of the Sanford Center, conducted an internal audit and reimbursed the city of Bemidji over $134,000 for payments and reimbursements to Webb from January 2013 to April 2016.
Webb must also spend three years on probation.
Webb, after leaving the Sanford Center in 2016, began work as director of the then-named U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois.
He was recently convicted of a similar crime there, and sentenced to 100 hours of community service, two years of probation, and to pay required fees and restitution.
