Bemidji City Council to discuss financial management

BEMIDJI– The Bemidji City Council is scheduled to discuss financial management and next year’s budget in a work session this Monday.

According to a document prepared by City Finance Director Ron Eischens, staff is recommending a potential cumulative levy increase of 4.6 percent.

However, Eischens says that potential levy amount can be reduced due to grants the Bemidji Police Department may be able to renew, which funds two officers.

According to the memo, police chief Mike Mastin anticipates renewal dates for an Auto Theft Grant in late June and the Toward Zero Deaths grant in early fall.

Another meeting in August or September will set the preliminary 2020 property tax levy.
