Prince announces bid for Bemidji Mayor

Jorge Prince announced his candidacy after filing for Bemidji Mayor Monday.

According to a release, Prince is the current CFO for LaValley Industries, and this is his second political campaign after unsuccessfully running for mayor in 2014.

I believe our city works best when its citizens are at their best,” Prince said. “Our city leaders have an obligation to provide a safe, stable, and positive environment where everyone can have an opportunity to pursue their dreams and aspirations.”

Prince cites deficiencies in Bemidji’s water and wastewater systems, Sanford Center costs and other issues as his motivation to run for office.

Prince is a 40-year Bemidji resident, and a graduate of Bemidji High School and Bemidji State University.

The filing period for Bemidji Mayor and four other council positions is open until 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. Wards 1, 3 and 5 are regular elections for a four-year term, Ward 2 is a special election for about a two-year term, and the Mayor’s position is a two-year term.
