DEED releases May unemployment figures

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development recently issued the latest unemployment numbers in the state.

The unemployment rate for the entire state rose to 9.9 percent in May, with the private sector adding 27,500 jobs and the government losing 17,700 jobs from April to May.

Since the pandemic-related shutdowns began in Minnesota in mid-March, over 21 percent of the labor force in Beltrami County applied for unemployment benefits, about 30 percent of Cass County’s labor force applied, over 24 percent of Hubbard County’s labor force applied, and over 25 percent of Clearwater County’s labor force also applied for unemployment benefits.
