ST. PAUL– St. Paul police reports acquired by the Pioneer Press allege that northern Minnesota lawmaker Matt Grossell acted belligerently towards hotel security, law enforcement and hospital staff.

The St. Paul newspaper reports that Grossell cursed at a nurse, shoved hotel security staff and repeatedly told officers about his former law enforcement career and current status as a lawmaker, as well as accuse them of police brutality.

Grossell represents District 2A and is a Republican legislator from Clearbrook, and was a former Clearwater County sheriff’s deputy before he was injured in the line of duty and retired.

Grossell authored a bill that increases penalties for those who assault first responders and medical personnel.

He will likely not face any charges for the May incident, where he was cited for trespassing and disorderly conduct, as he entered into a community service and treatment program with the Ramsey County court, where upon successful completion of the program, his charges will be dismissed.
