Bemidji Now author and Paul Bunyan Broadcasting’s News Director Larissa Donovan asked the three candidates in the running for the Beltrami County Commissioner seat for District 5 a series of questions on their backgrounds and their thoughts on a few county issues.
District 5 includes the City of Bemidji’s Ward 3, as well as all of Northern and Turtle Lake Townships.
Incumbent Jim Lucachick has been served for three terms, and is facing challengers from Mike Bredon and Christian Taylor-Johnson.
JIM LUCACHICK
Jim Lucachick has served on the Beltrami County for three four-year terms, so this is his fourth campaign to represent District 5. He is the owner of Luachick Architecture, and had experience as a contractor for local government via his work there. Lucachick says he is running to ensure a balance between providing services and managing the budget.
MIKE BREDON
Mike Bredon is a political newcomer, and has always called Beltrami County home. He has viewed many local government proceedings via his work providing television services to the city of Bemidji’s bimonthly meetings. Bredon has been active in the local arts community, and says he is running to bring the county board back to nonpartisan.
CHRISTIAN TAYLOR-JOHNSON
Christian Taylor-Johnson has lived in the area for about three years, and grew up on the Leech Lake Reservation. Taylor-Johnson is currently a senior at Bemidji State University and is treasurer of the BSU Council of Indian Students. He was inspired to get politically active after the refugee resettlement vote in January.
