Three injured in crash near Walker

Three were injured in a crash near Walker yesterday afternoon.

According to the state patrol, 53-year-old David Knowles of Laporte was northbound on Highway 371 when he stopped to take a left turn onto Ruffled Grouse Rd. in Shingobee Township.

Eighteen-year-old Layne Hassel of Blackduck was also northbound on the highway, and was passing another vehicle just south of Knowles’ GMC Savanna when Hassell struck Knowles.

Hassell was in a GMC Sierra, which then bounced off into a southbound Honda Pilot.

Hassell’s vehicle subsequently caught fire.

Hassell was transported to the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. The Pilot occupants, 68-year-old jon Putzier and 51-year-old Jeannette Lindsey, both of Walker, were treated at St. Joseph’s.

All injuries were described as non-life threatening and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Walker Fire assisted at the scene.
