Two more filed for the Bemidji Councillor at-large position, with three in total that have filed two days into the filing period.
Linda Lemmer and former councillor at-large Dave Larson submitted their affidavits of candidacy yesterday. Daniel Jourdain submitted his affidavit Tuesday.
With more than two in the race, the initial special election will serve as a primary, but will fall on the General Election Day in November.
According to statute, “a special election held in a city or town must be held on one of the following dates: the second Tuesday in February, the second Tuesday in April, the second Tuesday in May, the second Tuesday in August, or the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.”
After the special primary election, the secondary election would then fall on Feb. 9, 2021, so the at-large position on the council will be empty until the victor is sworn in.
Swearing in would likely happen during the regular Bemidji City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16, since the third Monday of the month is Presidents Day.
Filing is open until Tuesday, August 11.
More information on filing is available on the city of Bemidji’s website.
