The next version of the local “Situation Update” will be on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when our author returns from Labor Day weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Health reported 856 new cases of COVID-19 today, and ten new COVID-related deaths, bringing the state’s totals to 78,996 cases and 1,847 deaths.
Of those deaths, 1,354 were residents of a long-term care or assisted living facility. Of those cases, 8,596 were health care workers.
Over 1.558 million tests have been completed so far, with over 1.168 million people tested. Yesterday, about 18,700 tests were completed between MDH and external labs.
To date, 70,537 COVID patients have been released from isolation.
COVID patients in ICU wards remain the same as they were yesterday, at 138, and hospitalizations in non-critical settings increased slightly today, at 136 from 134.
MDH reported four new cases in Itasca County today, bringing the total to 212 cases with 13 deaths; one new case in Koochiching County, total of 90 cases with three deaths; one new case in Lake of the Woods County, total of 14 cases with one death; and two new cases in Roseau County, total of 76 cases.
MDH updates its list weekly of COVID-exposed congregate living facilities on Fridays.

- Oak Crest Senior Housing, Roseau County
A facility is listed as COVID exposed if a COVID-positive resident, staff member or visitor was at the facility during their contagious period. If no new exposures are identified over the next 28 days, the facility is removed from the list. If a facility identifies a new exposure, they will once again be listed.
