The Minnesota Department of Health reported 513 new COVID-19 cases today and 10 new COVID deaths, bringing the state’s cumulative case total to 91,422 and death toll to 1,979.
Of those deaths, 1,430 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of those cases, 9,776 were health care workers.
Over 1.863 million tests have been completed, with over 9,400 tests completed yesterday, Monday, Sept. 21.
To date, 82,833 COVID patients have been released from isolation.
COVID patients in the ICU increased today, from 128 to 136, with 154 others hospitalized in non-critical settings. Yesterday, there were 127 hospitalized in non-critical settings.
MDH reported two new cases in Beltrami County today, bringing the county’s cumulative total to 380 cases with five deaths; four new cases in Cass County, total of 134 cases with three deaths; one new case in Clearwater County, total of 26 cases; and nine new cases in Itasca County, bringing their total to 289 with 13 deaths.
MDH recorded the first COVID death in Hubbard County today, a resident in their late 70s. Two new cases were reported in Hubbard County today, bringing their cumulative case total to 85 with one death.
Itasca County Public Health urges the public to continue to wear their masks and social distance themselves.
“Approximately 50 percent of all Itasca County cases can be attributed to community spread and not tied to congregate settings and other identifiable outbreaks,” said Kelly Chandler, Itasca County Public Health department manager.
“Twenty percent of all positive cases have not exhibited symptoms, also known as asymptomatic.”
“Persons who are asymptomatic still are infectious and can and do spread COVID to others,” said Chandler.
“And with the proportion of cases coming through unpredictable community spread, we need to assume that COVID is anywhere and everywhere. Wearing face coverings, physical distancing and avoiding crowds is as important as ever—even up here in the northland.”
