This year marks the centennial anniversary of women’s suffrage, but many of the rights granted in the 19th amendment did not apply to all women, especially women of color, until decades later.
This Saturday, organizers are planning a Bemidji Women’s March In Place event along Paul Bunyan Drive. According to a release, participants will be stationary to maintain social distancing and will line the sidewalk along the lakeside from Library Park to the Lakeside Dairy Queen.
Paddlers will also be in the water with canoes and kayaks. Bemidji’s League of Women Voters will be there and have voter registration forms on hand. The demonstration will begin at noon this Saturday. Students from Bemidji State Black Student Union and Phoenix will also participate.
Masks and social distancing required.
