Minnesota’s Seventh District Representative Michelle Fischbach joined one other in the state’s congressional delegation to object the electoral college votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania.
Fischbach’s district includes the most of the city of Bemidji, and the area to the west.
Beltrami County, according to election results, largely voted for former Rep. Collin Peterson, despite the county’s lean to Donald Trump in the presidential race. Clearwater County leaned heavily toward both Fischbach and Trump.
The consideration of the electoral college votes is largely a formality, and generally doesn’t receive much media attention outside of C-SPAN.
Fischbach released this statement:
“Today, I plan to vote for the objections to the certification of electoral votes in certain contested states. This election was shrouded in allegations of irregularities and fraud too voluminous to ignore. In order to fulfill my duty to the constitution and my constituents, I believe there must be a proper investigation to consider these claims.
“Perhaps most fundamental to the rights of an American is the right to vote, and we must do all we can to protect that franchise. If the American people lose faith in the integrity of their elections, the impact would be an irreversible and catastrophic blow to the exercise of free and fair democracy.
“Minnesotans can count on me to continue being a vigorous defender of election integrity and our democracy.”
Fischbach was joined within the delegation by Rep. Jim Hagerdorn in objecting the results.
Reps. Pete Stauber and Tom Emmer joined Minnesota’s Democratic congressional delegation.
After yesterday’s infiltration of the U.S. Capitol, Congress returned to ratify the 2020 Presidential Election results.
Six U.S. Senators and 121 House members objected.
