An Albany man was injured in a snowmobile crash in the Paul Bunyan State Forest Saturday afternoon.

According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and medical staff responded to the Steamboat Forest Road in Thorpe Township and found the injured 70-year-old rider, who was down a steep hill after being thrown from his machine.

According to the investigation, William Scepaniak was eastbound on the forest road when he lost control, riding into a steep ditch then struck a tree.

Scepaniak had to be extricated up the steep hill, where he was then transported by sled to an ambulance which then took him to a waiting helicopter for treatment at a St. Cloud hospital.
