Wisconsin man injured in crash near Pike Bay Loop

A Wisconsin man was injured in an alcohol-related crash near Pike Bay Loop Sunday night.

The state patrol says 48-year-old Eric Carlson, of Ellsworth, was driving an F350 in the westbound lane of Highway 2 when he crossed the centerline around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Thirty-two-year-old Jacob Premo of Horace, North Dakota, was in the eastbound lane, pulling an enclosed utility trailer with a Chevy Silverado.

Premo attempted to avoid the head-on collision by switching lanes, but Carlson’s truck drove through the trailer and then struck a tree.

Carlson was not wearing a seat belt and his injuries were described as non-life threatening.

He was treated at Sanford Bemidji.

Premo was not injured. Carlson is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police and Leech Lake Ambulance assisted at the scene.
