Bemidji law enforcement officials are searching for two male suspects after a report of shots fired and a crash that downed a power pole.
Bemidji Police officers and Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 600 block of 23rd St. NW around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses reported seeing two males, one wearing a red shirt and red sweatpants and the other in all black clothing, who fled the area and at least one was carrying a handgun.
At the scene, bullet holes were discovered in nearby buildings and a vehicle.
The crash, according to witnesses, involved a white car that crashed and ultimately felled the power pole.
Chief of Police Mike Mastin said Thursday morning that the crash and shooting appear to be connected.
The driver of the white car appears to have been the focus of the shooting, and the crash was a result of avoiding gunfire.
Additional witnesses said the two males who fled southbound may have gotten into a silver Nissan with dark tinted windows and black rims.
Chief of Police Mike Mastin says that no one has been injured in this incident and that there is no threat to the public.
This is a very active case, and anyone with information is urged to contact law enforcement immediately.
“Do not approach the individuals as they may be armed and dangerous,” said Mastin.
