Fond du Lac man sentenced to 9 years for funeral shooting in a school zone

A Fond du Lac man was sentenced to more than nine years in prison for shooting someone in the back of the head during a funeral.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Shelby Gene Boswell ran into the funeral with a rifle in hand.

The funeral service was held in the Fond du Lac Head Start building, which is within 1,000 feet of Fond du Lac High School.

The victim was treated for their injuries at a hospital and survived.

Boswell’s sentence stems from charges of illegally possessing a firearm and discharging it within a school zone.

Boswell’s criminal history includes a felony conviction in Beltrami County for a 2015 assault, as well as priors in Carlton County and the federal jurisdiction of Minnesota, so he is ineligible to possess a gun at any time.
