Situation Update for Thursday, May 20

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 874 new COVID-19 cases today and eight newly reported deaths.

In total, the state has had 597,052 cases and 7,333 deaths.

One of today’s deaths was a resident of a long-term care or assisted living facility. There have been 4,396 deaths in these types of homes.

Today’s data comes after around 33,000 tests were completed yesterday.

More than 4.2 million people have been tested for COVID-19, with 9.7 million tests completed.

As of today, 582,480 of the state’s COVID-19 patients no longer need to be isolated.

One of today’s reported deaths was a Cass County resident in their early 80s.

COVID-19 case rates appear to be somewhat stable, if not declining, in north-central Minnesota.

For the two week period ending May 8, Beltrami County had 26.45 new COVID-19 cases per 10,000 people, an increase of about two points.

Cass County’s rate dropped nine points to 37.9, Clearwater County’s rate dropped 24 points to 55.61, and Hubbard County’s rate increased about two points to 44.58.

MDH is reporting seven new COVID-19 cases in Beltrami County today, 18 new cases in Cass County, one case in Clearwater County and one new case in Hubbard County.
