The Bemidji City Council approved a series of event permits and applications during a fairly light meeting Monday.
Permits for the Bemidji Jaycees Water Carnival, Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival, Third Street Festival, and the Knights of Columbus Walleye Classic were approved under the consent agenda.
The council also discussed and approved a reduction in liquor permit fees for the Mississippi Music Festival.
The temporary three-day liquor permit that fits this use has certain hours of serving allowed over the course of the permit. These weekly concerts only sell beer for two hours.
Mississippi Music organizers were granted a 75 percent reduction in fees since they will only serve for 14 hours over seven weeks.
The council also held the first reading of an ordinance amending the code around firearms and hunting within city limits.
Property owners in the newly annexed portion of Northern Township should be able to use their muzzleloaders and shotguns within the Bemidji Game Refuge with this language change.
The issue was first brought to the council by concerned property owners last summer.
The code change also includes some updates for the city-wide archery hunt.
