Protester convicted on misdemeanors after jury trial

One pipeline protester was convicted of unlawful assembly and obstructing a public right of way after a jury trial earlier this week.

According to a release from the Hubbard County Attorney’s Office,  25-year-old Brock Hefel of Iowa was tried Aug. 3. and 4 and was found guilty on both misdemeanor offenses relating to his opposition to Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline in June.

Sentencing will be at a later date.

Hefel was also arrested last week after climbing into a 1,500-foot pipe segment and locking down with another protester in a sleeping dragon device.
