AUDIO: COVID updates for Tuesday, Sept. 7

Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota officials are warning of a spike in cases they are currently seeing.

Dr. Colleen Swank with Sanford Bemidji says hospitalizations are increasing exponentially, with the majority of those patients being unvaccinated.

Swank says the best way out of the pandemic is through vaccination.

Sanford Bemidji officials requested the St. Philip’s Block Party Committee to modify their event due to the local COVID-19 levels and staffing shortages at the hospital.

Organizers will hold some events online and will postpone the gathering until further notice.

The party would have been this Saturday but it has shifted to a hybrid event at the request of Sanford.

“Ignoring this request and potentially putting people at risk for an event that can be modified would contradict our call to serve others,” said Maryhelen Chadwick, St. Philips’ director of stewardship and communication.

“Many have generously donated items and put in countless hours to support this event. We hope people will embrace the opportunity to help us raise funds by bidding online or buying $5.00 50/50 raffle tickets in the Parish Office or after weekend Masses.”

MDH’s COVID data reported today is for all cases and deaths reported Friday. Tomorrow’s report will include COVID-19 information reported over the long weekend.

More than 2,088 new COVID-19 cases were reported across the state today, as well as 12 new deaths.

Twenty-seven of those new cases were in Beltrami County, 15 were in Cass County, three were in Clearwater County and seven were in Hubbard County.
