Improving drought conditions, fire restrictions eased

Fire restrictions were eased in this area after recent rainfall.

According to a release from the DNR, as of Friday, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater and Hubbard counties are part of the Class III restrictions area.

Attended campfires in established fire rings are once again permitted, as long as they are associated with a home, cabin, campground or resort.

Campfires are still prohibited in dispersed or remote campsites.

Fireworks are still not allowed to be ignited and open burning permits are still restricted.

According to the US Drought Monitor, northern Minnesota remains in a severe drought, with a swath of Beltrami County and others in exceptional drought.

There is a 20 percent decrease in how much of the state is in a severe drought.
