Work is now underway on a day center for the city’s homeless community.

During a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday morning, Nameless Coalition for the Homeless Chair Reed Olson thanked the many partners that made it possible.

The groundbreaking ceremony included a tree planting.

These partners include Sanford Health’s donation of the former Upper Mississippi Mental Health Center building on 15th Street.

Greater Bemidji and the City of Bemidji found and successfully applied for Minnesota DEED’s redevelopment grant.

Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota’s CEO and President Susan Jarvis said their behavioral health department has grown beyond needing the space.

The Nameless Coalition operates the Wolfe, an overnight emergency shelter for the winter months, and the day center will also be a point of outreach for social services.
