Fire destroys Akeley home, pipe thawing efforts suspected cause

No one was injured after a fire destroyed an Akeley home last week.

According to a release from the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, the structure fire call came in Wednesday afternoon.

The Akeley and Nevis Fire Departments responded with medical personnel.

The homeowner told responders that she had a diesel-powered heater underneath her residence to thaw out frozen pipes, which is the suspected cause of the fire.

The home was considered a total loss.
