Paul Bunyan Broadcasting’s Todd Haugen appointed to Bemidji Area School Board

Paul Bunyan Broadcasting’s own Todd Haugen was appointed to the Bemidji Area School Board.

Haugen was appointed to fill a vacancy through the first Monday of January 2023.

Jeff Haack resigned from the school board late last year.

The school board will have a special two-year term on the ballots this November to complete the rest of Haack’s four-year term.

The board followed the Minnesota School Boards Association’s guidelines for filling the vacancy by appointment and received twelve applications.

Longtime board member Ann Long Voelkner nominated Haugen during the meeting Monday, with only one board member voting against the nomination.

Haugen will be sworn in within 30 days, which will complete the school board as they move towards hiring a new superintendent.

In addition to the special two-year term, there will be three four-year terms on the school board ticket this November.

Haugen has been with the radio stations of Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, namely KB101, for more than 40 years.

Haugen, over the decades, has been nominated for numerous awards in his broadcasting career, including the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Award.

KB101 has won the NAB Crystal Award for dedication to public service six times and is currently a finalist for a seventh award.

Todd Haugen is the main host of numerous programs this author is also featured on, namely KB101’s Chatabout and the KB101 Morning Show. Haugen, under FCC regulations, would not be able to campaign for elected office and work on-air at the same time.
