DNR issues reminders ahead of spring burning restrictions

As the mounds of snow begin to melt away, northern Minnesotans are reminded of the upcoming spring burning restriction season.

DNR official Ben Lang writes that those who have debris piles burning already should check them now to make sure they are out cold.

Those who plan to burn debris should also do so now before the snow cover melts and vegetation dries out.

Dry conditions still persist from last year, with most of the area still experiencing at least moderate drought.

Spring burning restrictions generally last four to six weeks until green-up.

The DNR would like to encourage anyone who plans to burn before restrictions go into place to use caution, know the weather before burning and regularly check brush fires and campfires.
