Zebra mussels confirmed in Ten Mile Lake

Zebra mussel larvae has been confirmed in a lake near Hackensack.

According to a release from the DNR, a research scientist identified 17 microscopic zebra mussel veligers in a sample taken from Ten Mile Lake in September.

Veligers are indications of reproducing populations, and lakeshore property owners should inspect their water equipment such as docks and boats for any evidence of zebra mussels.

Docks taken elsewhere for winter storage from an infested body of water may be required to obtain a permit.

More information is available on the DNR’s website.
