Lueken’s one of four Minnesota Grown retailers of the year

Lueken’s Village Foods was named the Minnesota Grown Retailer of the Year for this district.

According to a release from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the award is a recognition for grocers across the state for promoting locally grown products and farms.

“Grocers and their employees have come through repeatedly for Minnesota communities in recent years,” MDA Commissioner Thom Peterson said.

“One of those ways is by promoting fresh, nutritious, locally-grown foods, and we want to recognize how significant their contribution is.”

Representatives from the MDA and the Minnesota Grocers Association will present the awards to the four recipients of 2022 sometime this summer.

Judges’ scores were based on several factors, such as the number of products carried, and also on marketing the products through ads, displays, social media and events.

“Grocers are essential to the communities they serve and are incredibly proud of our innovative local partnerships–farm to fork,” said MGA President Jamie Pfuhl.

“The success of the Minnesota Grown program is driven by the exceptional efforts of all in the food industry. We are proud to play a role in this collective effort that showcases and celebrates innovative partnerships and brings wonderful local products to our customers.”

The Minnesota Grown Program is a statewide partnership created over 30 years ago to differentiate local produce from produce grown thousands of miles away.
