Scam in area demanding bitcoin

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a new scam circulating the area.

A local business reported they received a call from someone posing as a coordinator with the Federal Trade Commission, demanding money before the business would receive a supply delivery.

The scammer was demanding $3,500 in bitcoin.

Chief Deputy Jarrett Walton says calls demanding bitcoin and gift cards are fraudulent and to never provide information or send them money.
