Learn Shibori Dyeing with Sashiko Stitching

December 3, 2022 @ December 3, 2022 10:00 am - December 3, 2022 4:00 pm

Learn traditional Japanese methods of folding, binding, and stitching while dying fabric with indigo with instructor Mary Bratrud at Watermark Art Center on Saturday, December 3 from 10am to 4pm.

Shibori dyeing is a centuries-old Japanese technique of binding fabric in various ways before dyeing to create areas that remain unexposed to the dye. The result is beautiful, deep indigo blue patterns. There are many different techniques used in binding, including Japanese sashiko stitching. Explore different stitching techniques, each producing a different pattern. Each student will stitch and dye a tea towel and an 18in × 18in fabric square.

Watermark galleries are free and open to the public Monday – Saturday from 10 to 5pm and located at 505 Bemidji Avenue N. in Bemidji, Minnesota, 218-444-7570. Visit WatermarkArtCenter.org for detailed class and registration information. Adults ages 15 and up, $40 for members / $45 non members.
