The U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board awarded Dr. Kelly La Venture, associate professor of business administration at Bemidji State University, with a Fulbright Specialist Program award for her recent work promoting entrepreneurship in Cambodia.
She spent 30 days living and working in Olympia City from August to September.
“The YEAC staff encouraged me to take the short flight to Siem Reap to visit Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage site, home to the famous Angkor Wat and one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia,” La Venture said.
“We sat peacefully on the edge of the moat captivated by the sounds of monks chanting from inside the temple as the sun emerged behind the ancient silhouette of Angkor Wat. It was the first day of Pchum Ben, a religious festival held over 15 days when Cambodians honor their ancestors.”
This is the fourth time La Venture has been recognized by the Fullbright program, and she will discuss her experiences during a study abroad panel next week at BSU’s American Indian Resource Center. The panel will be Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m., as part of International Education Week.
