Voting underway for MnDOT’s “Name a Snowplow” contest

Voting for MnDOT’s “Name A Snowplow” contest is underway.

Eight plows in MnDOT’s statewide fleet will be dubbed new names, one for each district.

Some of the 60 finalist names include famous Minnesotan themes, such as “Blizzo,” “Bobsled Dylan,” “Mary Tyler More Snow,” “Camp Scoopy,” and “Paisley Plow.”

More than 10,400 snowplow names were submitted in December.

MnDOT staff and leadership reviewed the ideas, and factors considered included uniqueness, frequency of submissions, Minnesota-specific ideas, and names that would be easily identifiable and understandable to most audiences.

Voting is open through Feb. 3 and each person can vote once while selecting eight names. The winning names will be announced in early February.

Previous winning names for the Bemidji-area district were “Plow Bunyan” and “Blizzard of Oz.”
